Ania & Michael | Valley of Fire, Desert Wedding
When Ania emailed me inquiring for me to be her photographer, she wrote the most amazing email. The type of email that breaks your heart while simultaneously making it grow 3 times its size. I cried and couldn't wait to meet them in person. I couldn't get over their strength and I knew that I would leave our first meeting filled with incredible hope and a deeper understanding of love.
Ania and Michael had their first date in a pub in the small town of Chestermere, a short drive from Calgary, after connecting on eHarmony! Yup that's right, they are an online dating success story! Ania thought that Michael wasn't that in to her the night they met, he seemed to be rushing the date to be over and asked for the bill a lot earlier than what she was hoping for. But it resulted them having a long conversation in his truck before dropping her off at her car and giving her a hug while whispering, 'so no one will steal you away.' Michael couldn't wait to see her again and texted her right away which sealed their fate.
Michael proposed to her on new years eve in 2015 in a pub in Victoria. After an incredibly hard year with the loss of Michaels father and the diagnosis of Michaels stage 3 melanoma, the furthest thing from Anias mind was a proposal. She was balancing working her job at an interior design firm, going to school full-time, and supporting the love of her life as he battled for his. Surrounded by lights, balloons, and close friends, she didn't need to say yes, it was too obvious to say. She knew that he was it that night he drove her 30 feet to her car.
On October 10th, 2016 they got married in the desert of Nevada. Supported by close friends and family who stood by in a crescent moon shape at the base of the beautiful Seven Sisters, nestled in the red-rock and dry heat. They brought a beautiful little artisanal-boho rug to be married on so they could bring it home and have it as a forever heirloom of that day. This is such a special detail. They wrote their own vows, talking of all the hope they have for the future and the trials and heartache of seeing the love of your life sick. Needless to say, there wasn't a dry eye in the crowd.
Right after their 'I do's' we played in the desert and the couple drove a ferrari back to their reception in Las Vegas. It was an incredible night and a wedding I will never forget!
Congrats again Ania + Michael! I am so glad you chose me to be part of your day and to be touched by your story. I'm also so happy you guys were featured in the first issue of Dote Weddings (hence the delayed blog post) AND your engagement was featured on Rocky Mountain Bride. Your love story is beautiful but more so your hearts. I'm grateful to call you both friends and for you to come to Chicago for our wedding!
